As of May, 2006, it seems we have lost ground. The well isn't woriking - yikes! That is the Priority #1 project.
But other bits of progress include new steps and a railing for the front porch, and some repairs to the siding have been done. Nothing much has happened on the inside, as we need the water running in order to work on the plumbing.
The ground floor area on the right hand side of the picture above will be the first part to get fixed up. This comprises a small apartment and is destined to be a rental unit while the rest of the house gets a makeover.
1st Update - the well is fixed! It just needed a new pressure pump - why did we not think of that? And plumbers have now restored water to the one small unit bath and kitchen.
2nd Update - In June, 2006, major flooding occurred in the area. [See Links page for local photos] Fortunately the house was not affected, but a test of the well shows colliforms so maybe some contamination occurred. A system to chlorinate is expensive!! For now we will wait to see if it clears naturally, and bring drinking water.
3rd update - In October, 2006, Pam finally arrived from Colorado, and renovation planning began in earnest. While interviewing contractors, time was put into cleaning all the resident spiders out of the indoors, and raking up the leaves outdoors. Time for Halloween decorations at last! 4th Update -Once cold weather hit, problems occured; the heat works still in only two rooms, so pipes froze, and the cause became obvious. The wind blows under the house, into the basement, and up through the channels where the new water lines were installed. So, back to square one; work on the insulation.
February 2007 has brought a major snowstorm. [See photo gallery] Time to get the roof cleared...
